BERLIN AT WAR

We spend the first part of this three hour walk visiting sites located outside the old city walls. These include the Reichstag building and the Bendlerblock building which housed the high command of the German Armed Forces. In this part of the walk we discuss Germany’s defeat in the First World War and Hitler’s subsequent rise to power.
Next we move into the old city, to the business and political district. In this part of the walk we deal with the Second World War, visiting the location of the SS and Gestapo headquarters. Many of the Nazi buildings remain intact so we have a chance to visit Goering’s Ministry of Air and Goebbel’s Ministry of Propaganda and of course the site of Hitler’s Bunker.
In the final part of our walk we take you to the Berlin Wall. Here we remind you that, for over 40 years, the world was threatened by the Cold War. We explain why the two great powers, communist Russia and capitalist America, choose Berlin as their ideological battlefield.
