BERLIN AT WAR
We spend the first part of this three hour walk visiting sites located outside the old city walls. These include the Reichstag building and the Bendlerblock building which housed the high command of the German Armed Forces. In this part of the walk we discuss Germanys defeat in the First World War and Hitlers subsequent rise to power.
Next we move into the old city, to the business and political district. In this part of the walk we deal with the Second World War, visiting the location of the SS and Gestapo headquarters. Many of the Nazi buildings remain intact so we have a chance to visit Goerings Ministry of Air and Goebbels Ministry of Propaganda and of course the site of Hitlers Bunker.
In the final part of our walk we take you to the Berlin Wall. Here we remind you that, for over 40 years, the world was threatened by the Cold War. We explain why the two great powers, communist Russia and capitalist America, choose Berlin as their ideological battlefield.
